Pennants 23/24 Wrap-Up
A bittersweet week from 12/3/24-23/3/24 for us and some great news with our Tuesday teams making the trek to Yanchep to face off against Rossmoyne to earn the right to play off for the Pennant. Our teams put them to the sword, winning 5-1 by 28 shots to set up a pennant final at Cambridge against the very strong Yanchep. On a beautiful day at Cambridge, in front of a small, vocal and insightful supporter group, unfortunately we didn’t bring our best game against three good Yanchep sides and went down 0-6. while this would have been hard to absorb at the time, they should all be very happy with their season and fingers crossed, they will be able to test their skills at a higher level next season.
We had another week of finals beginning on Thursday 21st March 2024 where our Midweek 2nd Division teams travelled to Osborne Park to play North Perth on a very good patch of lawn. We won two games, but unfortunately one team could not stop the damage by enough and we went down 2-4 by 17 shots. Its 1st Division next year and we thank everyone, who contributed during the year including those who came in from 4th division for the odd cameo. Speaking with some of the stallwarts around the club, this is the first time we have reached that level and we are sure we’re up for the challenge.
Midweek 4th Division travelled to Joondalup for the right to be promoted, playing Stirling but alas we didn’t have our best day and went down 0-6 by 25 points. It is great we were able to get into this position and thanks again to everyone who competed and contributed during the season.
On Saturday 23/3/24 our 5th Division travelled to a not so happy hunting ground in Forrestfield to play against the home side. On a blustery day, we went down 0-6 only by 7 shots. Team Baughen got off to a slow start and was 10 shots behind after 7 ends. They slowly caught up to only go down by 3 shots. Team Keeley and Stefano had very tight matches and were in front for extended periods., but both went down in close games. A large supporting contingent were simultaneously disappointed in the result but proud of the fightback and competitiveness of our side. Well done to all of our Ladies and Gents. It is promotion for this team with another side to field next year and we are sure everyone gets a game.
Ladies Pennants – 2022/23
Our Ladies played extremely well throughout the Saturday competition and remained 2nd on the Ladder all season. As hard as they tried, they just couldn’t get any closer to Cockburn who finished on top in Division 2 (Lime). Well done though Ladies!
The Tuesday Open Gender competition was more successful with our team sitting on top of the ladder all season. Unfortunately, going into the Semi Finals we succumbed to Joondalup in a well fought match against a very strong opponent.
Mens’ Pennants – 2022/23
A mix of highs and lows throughout the season for our members competing in the Mid-week & Saturday Pennants competition.
Saturday Division 2 (WHITE) teams struggled to get on top of the game but the final result didn’t do them justice. Saturday Division 5 (RED) finished the season 2nd on the Ladder and competed in the Promotional Finals for a chance to go up to Division 4 but alas went down by 7 shots overall. A great effort by everyone.
