2023 resulted in a mix of results from our seasoned Champions and some new names added to the Honour Boards. Well done to everyone who participated and enjoyed the challenges.
Open Club Singles
What a fantastic result! For the first time in the history of this event the Ladies played a high standard of bowls with Lisa Smith finally triumphing with a result of 18-16 over Leanne Marchi. Well done Ladies – it was a match worth watching! The Plate Final was competed by Ray Findley & Syd Dall. Despite Syd playing a great fight it was Ray who kept his nose in front winning 18-15.
Mens Pairs
Well done fellas for a well fought competition with Ron “Rowdy” Nelson & Peter French defeating Vince Stefano & Dave Ridley.
Paul Lydiat & Jason Godden went through to win the Plate against Arthur Hoffman & Ray Findley.
Ladies Pairs
A great day & well organised. Congratulations to Deb Powell & Vicki Duggan in what was an amazing result and well deserved win on defeating Dawn Allwood & Carole Ash.
Mens Singles
A high standard of play during the final with Rupert Franse trading touchers all game. It was Paul Smith’s consistency earning him a lead but Rupert did not give up. In front of a small but vocal crowd, Paul prevailed winning 25-16.
Ladies Singles
It was a double triumph for the Smith Family this season with Lisa Smith defeating Dawn Allwood in the finals. Lisa didn’t have it all her own way with Dawn giving her a challenge to the end despite Lisa finishing with 25-17 after two decisive ends of scoring 4 and 3.
Mens Triples
Congratulations to this years winners. Paul Smith, Rupert Franse & Ross Keely defeating Runners Up Rowdy, Frenchie & Brad Moffatt. A first for our Club where we had nominated teams with each requiring at least one 4th/5th division player to entice more competitors.
Ladies Triples
Congratulations to team Lisa Smith, Tracey Franse & Marie Goward defeating team Leanne Marchi, Vicki Duggan & Dawn Allwood in a well played competition.
Mixed Pairs
Four great teams made it through to the finals with a small but appreciative crown treated to some great matches. Ron Nelson (Rowdy) & Leanne Marchi met with Paul & Lisa Smith with the standard of play very high as expected from these pairs. For their 3rd year in a row, Team Smith held out to win this prestigious event.
Mixed Triples
Eight drawn teams competed playing off in sectional play for a spot in the final where teams Syd Dall, Terry McCormack & Deb Powell met Steven Boyd, Rupert Franse & Wendy Burley. The appreciative crowd was treated to a clinic by Deb Powell who led extremely well carrying her team to a deserved victory.
Mens Novice
Five competitors played in front of a small but vocal and appreciative crowd. Rupert “Bambi” Franse won convincingly at the end of the round robin with 4 victories. All games were of a high standard & well done to all the competitors.
